‘Stöckli’ living is being reinterpreted and supplemented with a variety of living arrangements – from multi-generational houses in existing buildings to retirement homes with gardens in new buildings. Threshold spaces create direct connections to the outside world, combining privacy and community.
Direct connections to the outdoor space are created by threshold areas that combine retreat and community.
Self-determined living within a house communit promotes intergenerational encounters and participation.
The communal garden is a central theme of the design – conceived as a wild, green island with a high quality of stay.

Approaches:

1. Substance as a starting point:
The value of what already exists
shapes the development of something new.
2. Together instead of alone:
Inclusive architecture for all begins with clarity,
access and openness, creating spaces for encounters.
3. Climate resilience:
    Material cycles, porous soils
and biodiverse habitats create a healthy environment. 4. Compact and space-efficient:
When space is designed to be sufficient,
there is room for new things.
5. Clarity of systems:
Clean interfaces are the basis for circular thinking.
6. Minimal below ground:
    Less excavation, less concrete,
    but more climate,more resources.
7. The building as a power plant:
    Architecture becomes an energy partner
that actively produces, integrates and is climate-positive.
